Telecommunications is rapidly becoming a vast area. It now encompasses the traditional networks and telephone switching equipment as well as mobile networks, security and even Intelligent Networks. Naturally the Internet along with applet technology features heavily in this spectrum.
As the costs of the spectrum have risen, so the revenues that network operators need to obtain to regain their expenditure (investement arguably), have soared. This has directly led to operators becoming either virtual ones (renting their phones from the major operators and therefore not incurring the massive start up costs) or else installing applets and games on the phones to bring in additional revenues. The massive increase in volume of texting was symptomatic of this trend. The push towards video's is the next revenue generator.
A lot of the recent consultancy activity has been directed towards these activities.
